ABOUT TOURISM EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION OF MALDIVES

Tourism Employees Association of Maldives –TEAM- the trade union for tourism workers of Maldives is: 

“An organization of workers formed to protect the rights and advance the interests of its members concerning wages, benefits and working conditions”. 

“A continuous, permanent and democratic organization created and run by the workers” 

“An organization of employees formed to protect themselves at their works through collectivebargaining”

“An organization of employees formed to seek to better the conditions of their lives and to provide a means of expression for the workers’ views on problems of society” 

Why should you join a Union (TEAM)?

A trade union is an organized group of workers. Its main goal is to protect and advance the interests of its members.

  If you join our trade union we can help with any difficulties related to work, such as your pay, service charge, leave, food, accommodation, discrimination, working conditions and unfair dismissal.

If the problem cannot be resolved by agreement we can back you in illegal action to secure your rights. We can assist you to take your employer to court. We also able to get solidarity supports from our affiliated international Organization if required so.

 In a way belonging to a Union is form of insurance. We are there for our members when they need us.

  Our Union also has a wealth of information which is useful to you. We can create awareness to our members on labor acts, convention of ILO and the other required laws and regulation to the members.

Objectives 

To secure as a complete organization, a union of all workers employed in the tourism sector & their ancillary and allied establishments in the country.  

To watch, promote, safeguard and further the interest, rights and privileges of the members of the UNION as working people.

To ameliorate the economic and social conditions of the members of the UNION and to promote their welfare and education.

To regulate the relations between members of the UNION and employers, between members of the UNION and other employees

To assist and promote friendly relation and co-operation with other Trade Unions and generally to promote solidarity with other organizations of workers in matters relating to and concerning the interests of the working class.

To assist the members in any or all of the following benefits.

To raise and maintain funds for the purposes set out above and to provide benefits and /or assistance to members of the Union in connection with strikes and lockouts, victimization, retirement, unemployment and other matters connected with or arising out of their employment or arising out of their UNION membership or to assist the members in any or all of the following benefits..

Legal assistance and legal advice where necessary in connection with their employment and in relation to conducting and participation of activities of the UNION.

Defend democratic rights & civil liberties, to oppose & to strive for the ending of all forms of exploitations & oppressions, specially on the subject of discrimination in terms of sex, race, creed or language & to promote independent political organizations of workers on a democratic basis with a view to unifying all sections of the working class

To raise and maintain a fund.
